Laura Sykora (Kasperzak)

Laura (a.k.a. @laurasykora on Instagram) began her yoga journey 17 years ago. It started off slow with a Level 1 Baron Baptiste Power Yoga flow VHS tape once or twice a week and steadily grew over the years. Currently, she practices each and every morning to get her day going. Yoga wasn’t a huge step into the unknown as she has a background in gymnastics which helped in her transition to many asanas.

For Laura yoga is her hour of sanity in the morning. It’s a time where she can step onto her mat and fly any which way she chooses. It’s also a calming time before the day’s craziness begins. Involving her family is also a key focus to her yoga practice. She loves being able to connect with her husband and teach her kids new poses. As Laura says, "It’s an amazing way to create memories and spend time with one another."

Not surprising to us, Laura has an incredible Instagram following of over 1,000,000 fans. We're amongst legions of others who love her dedication to the daily inspirational posts of her own yoga practice. She also collaborates in daily Instagram yoga challenges that have brought the practice of yoga into backyards and living rooms of people from around the world. Her goal is to continue inspiring people to try new things and step out of their comfort zone.

When was the last time you did something for the first time?
At my recent Yoga Teacher Training,  one of my first assignments was to walk someone through a Sun Salutation and film it - that was a first for me!  It was scary and exhilarating at the same time!

What are your goals for 2016 and beyond?
Start sharing my passion for yoga... To share my knowledge with my own students.

What is your favorite yoga pose and why?
Currently, it is my toe-grabbing hollowback. It has taken a lot of time, practice and patience to achieve.  It's not perfect, but it’s something I’m proud of!
